Mindy's Awesome Red Stag!!

I had planned my New Zealand hunt 2 years prior (aka 20 years if you are counting that in hunting time.)  So, you can imagine how excited I was to finally take this beautiful, long-haired Tahr.Unfortunately, for me Tahr are at their best during the New Zealand winter.( which is during the short Michigan summer..July!) I  knew that my best chance for that long coat Trophy Tahr would be to go to the South Island at this time. This part of the hunt we where transported by helicopter (not for the weak stomach). Immediately the short ride into the New Zealand landscape proved to be like nothing I have ever experienced. We spotted the Tahr; then land to do a stalk hunt. The snow in the mountains was waist high, extremely tough conditions but I got the shot off. For this hunt, I shot my Thompson Center Pro Hunter that withstood the conditions.
